As more people come into the search engine optimizationindustry, more unqualified people are in the market makinguneducated claims that they declare to be facts. The latestclaim being made by a few people in the industry is that yourcompetitors can knock your web site from Google's search engineresults pages by simply directing links to it (called "GoogleBowling"). Fortunately, this is not true. Unfortunately,many people relying on the "professional" advice of the SEOfirms making this ridiculous claim could be put in a badsituation because of it. The information that they have tried to use to substantiate thisclaim is the word "almost" in one line in Google's information for webmasters. The fact of the matter is that the word "almost" does not makeprove anything. To say that it proves the validity of the claimmakes no more sense than saying it proves that wearing bluesocks on Tuesday will hurt my competitors web site. In reality,SEO firms making claims like this are usually trying to createexcuses for their own web site not ranking.
